Authorities have arrested a semi-truck driver following a fatal multi-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on Highway 99 that left two people dead and led to serious felony charges, including vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death.

The driver, identified as 24-year-old Manvir Singh, was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, according to jail records. He is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit-and-run resulting in death.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 12:20 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Harney Lane. Investigators say the semi-truck reportedly skidded off the highway, struck a guardrail, and then became involved in a four-vehicle collision involving three other passenger vehicles.

Officials allege the driver attempted to flee the scene following the crash but was later located and arrested later the same day. The circumstances surrounding the crash and the alleged attempt to leave the scene remain under active investigation.

Two people were killed in the collision. Authorities have not yet released their identities, pending notification of family members. Additional details about other individuals involved have also not been disclosed at this time.

The crash forced a full shutdown of northbound Highway 99 for several hours as emergency crews, investigators, and cleanup teams worked at the scene. The roadway was reopened later in the evening, around 9:10 p.m., after debris was cleared and the investigation progressed.

Singh is being held on $185,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.
