A tragic shooting along Florida Boulevard in Baton Rouge has left a young man dead and a community grieving after gunfire erupted inside The Athlete’s Foot earlier this month.
Authorities confirmed that Na’Quail Weaver, 28, died after suffering a critical gunshot wound during the incident. According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the store around 3:07 p.m. on May 14. When police arrived, they found Weaver seriously injured at the scene.
Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel worked to save his life. Despite those efforts, Weaver later succumbed to his injuries, the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office confirmed.
News of his death has left family members, friends, and residents throughout Baton Rouge mourning another young life lost to violence. Loved ones have expressed heartbreak and disbelief as tributes and condolences continue circulating across the community.
Investigators immediately began working to determine what led to the shooting and identify those involved. Days after the incident, authorities announced that Deandre Selmon, 26, turned himself in to police accompanied by his attorney.
